In 2023, the ACT welcomed over 5.4 million domestic and international overnight visitors. These visitors stayed 12.3 million nights and spent a total of $3 billion in overnight expenditure.

Major construction

Canberra’s urban and civic infrastructure and redevelopment is thriving. Projects for the rejuvenation of the city’s corridor continue to build on our reputation as one of the world’s most liveable cities. These include:

  • the extension of Canberra’s successful light rail project from the City Centre to Woden
  • the building of a major new emergency, surgical and critical care unit at Canberra Hospital
  • a state-of-the-art Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) campus and public transport interchange at Woden Town Centre
  • the Canberra Theatre Centre redevelopment, which will create a nationally significant destination for artists and audiences in the heart of Canberra’s Civic and Culture District

Visitors flying into Canberra land at a world-class international and domestic airport. The airport’s stunning glass architecture offers an impressive introduction to the city. Located just minutes from the CBD, commuting into and out of the city is seamless.

Accommodation services

Canberra continues to cement its reputation as a vibrant, progressive and intellectual city, in addition to being the national seat of government. Businesses, investors, students and tourists are driving demand for new accommodation. New, stylish hotels, motels, serviced apartments and conference centres are springing up in the CBD and beyond.
