The Canberra Cyber Hub connects and strengthens Canberra’s unique cyber capabilities.

Canberra is leading the Australian cyber security industry. Our highly skilled workforce, infrastructure, research institutions and proximity to government helps strengthen national security organisations.

About Canberra Cyber Hub

The Canberra Cyber Hub connects our unique cyber ecosystem to grow and strengthen the ACT cyber economy. Funded by the ACT Government, and the newly-launched UNSW Innovation Hub, it promotes and nurtures the talent, capability, technologies and companies in our region.

The Canberra Cyber Hub does this by:

  • helping cyber businesses start or grow their business in Canberra
  • connecting small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to help attract investment
  • promoting Canberra as a place to join Canberra’s cyber security workforce
  • showcasing Canberra’s cyber education and training providers
  • promoting Canberra’s research capabilities and opportunities for partnership.

Cyber security opportunities

Canberra has the highest density of prime contractors, cyber SMEs, and Australian Government agencies. Collectively, the Australian Government is Australia’s second biggest cyber security buyer.

Our cyber security industry provides data security products and services to national security agencies. This includes:

  • Department of Defence
  • Australian Signals Directorate
  • Australian Secret Intelligence Organisation (ASIO)
  • Australian Cyber Security Centre
  • Department of Home Affairs
  • prime defence contractors.

Established education and research capabilities

These highly ranked universities and institutions based in Canberra have unmatched research capabilities:

  • Australian National University (ANU)
  • University of Canberra (UC)
  • University of New South Wales Canberra (UNSW Canberra)
  • Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT)
  • Charles Sturt University.

We are a deep tech company. Everything we do has never been done anywhere in the world before. Here is where we find the most highly skilled workforce.

Skilled security-cleared workforce

Canberra is home to a highly skilled, security-cleared workforce, which strengthens our national security organisations – backed by secure infrastructure, research institutions and proximity to government. Draw on our deep cyber talent pool to grow your business.

A networked business community

Because of our small city footprint, business, government and researchers have strong relationships. Here, you can grow your network quickly and build collaborative partnerships to solve problems. Many of our best ideas come when smart, driven people connect across sectors.

The key difference to other capitals is we have a central location people can get to easily. It’s that simple. Our CBD is accessible, so we keep that monthly networking appointment.

Geographical proximity

Cyber stakeholders, researchers, businesses and government are close to each other in Canberra. This proximity provides a special advantage to network and collaborate.

Strong innovation ecosystem

The Canberra Innovation Network (CBRIN) connects businesses, universities and research institutions. This drives innovation, growth and jobs in the industries of the future, including cyber.

Each year, CBRIN has more than 10,000 visitors and hosts more than 250 events for business innovators.
