Outdoors & nature

Canberra’s planners ensured nature would weave through the city.

Our outdoor spaces offer endless opportunities for fun and fitness. It’s easier to de-stress here from the demands of modern life.

Outdoor fun

We make the most of our shorter commutes and gorgeous seasons by spending more time outside. You’ll find us enjoying a range of activities in the city, suburbs and surrounding National Parks. Canberra is made for:

  • walking, running and hiking
  • cycling on our well-established cycleways
  • mountain biking
  • climbing
  • fishing
  • swimming in pools, lakes and rivers
  • kayaking
  • camping
Accessing nature is a breeze with reserves and parks dotted all across the city

Easy access to bushland and ski fields

In addition to the green spaces, lakes and parks within the city itself, we’re very close to National Parks and ski fields. Discover native flora and fauna on bush walks within easy walking distance from the centre of the city. Spend your lunch hour in nature and there’s time for a shower before you’re back at your desk for the afternoon.

This is a city designed for ‘living’. More than half of the ACT is protected as nature reserve. Walk or hike to stunning waterfalls. Gorges, rivers and snow-capped Brindabella mountains are our playground.

And if you’re in the mood for adventure, it’s just a day trip to pristine ski fields in the Snowy Mountains. Or enjoy a few hours on the spectacular beaches along the New South Wales South Coast.

Jervis Bay is only a two and a half hour drive from Canberra
