Trade Missions

Learn about trade missions and how you can grow your business internationally.

We’re here to help you make connections between ACT-based businesses and potential partners in key markets. Through the Office of International Engagement, business ties are being forged between Canberra and specific countries and cities across the globe to encourage trade.

Why attend an ACT Government-supported trade mission

Your business will benefit from your involvement in a trade mission:

  • gain direct access to high-level contacts in government and business
  • experience faster growth of exports
  • secure international orders

You’ll forge partnerships with other ACT Government-supported businesses in your sector and with international partners.

When you join a mission, you’ll pick up critical knowledge in areas like in-market regulations and better understand the cultural differences that shape your business relationships with international players.

Trade support for industry sectors

The ACT Government has identified Canberra’s key strengths, where we focus our trade missions. These include:

Links within these sectors give Canberra businesses targeted, focused trade missions. They can help move your business where you want it to go, faster.

Target markets for trade activities

We’re targeting specific cities within key countries for trade activities. These include:

  • Singapore
  • Wellington and Auckland, New Zealand
  • Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan, China
  • San Francisco, Washington DC, Austin, Denver and Portland, United States of America
  • Tokyo and Osaka, Japan

Markets in which we’re raising awareness and building relationships into the future include:

  • India
  • Republic of Korea
  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Thailand

Other trade mission opportunities

Canberra’s proximity to the federal government offers opportunities to access national trade mission programs. This includes Austrade’s TradeStart, and support offered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Living here in Canberra offers access to peak bodies and other organisations with strong links to Government and other businesses. The Canberra Business Chamber, for example, is the voice of industry in Canberra. It’s committed to growing this city and the Canberra region economically.

Inbound trade delegations

The ACT Government works with the diplomatic community and other organisations such as Canberra Business Chamber to bring in trade delegations. These are usually from a particular region, focused on a key industry sector. It also:

  • qualifies enquiries
  • proactively targets inbound opportunities
  • manages program development and delivery for inbound delegation visits
