Canberra creative agency Wildbear Entertainment was last night crowned ACT Exporter of the Year, as Canberra’s leading businesses were honoured in a showcase of our region’s export strength.
Wildbear Entertainment, who have been a permanent fixture on the ACT Export scene for many years, were also awarded the Creative Industries award.
WildBear Entertainment is an integrated factual entertainment company, offering refreshing and imaginative approaches working across television, theatrical, corporate, education and government communications.
They create and tell stories that are globally relevant but also leverage an Australian aspect with key export markets include USA, Italy, Poland, NZ, Spain, China, Thailand and the UK.
Indeed, WildBear produce 120 hours of original programming per year for the international market. To put that in to context, the broadcast free-to-air networks in Australia broadcast 441 hours of original documentaries in 2014.
Wildbear CEO Michael Tear said that the company was delighted to receive the top award on the night, especially given the impressive credentials of the other finalists.
“The award is a testament to Canberra’s young, exciting and people-focused creative scene,” Michael said.
“For us, working in Canberra means that we are well-connected to our key markets. This is a great place to build a network and ultimately build a business. There are so many opportunities in this city.”
In a year that has seen the commencement of international flights from Canberra Airport, Canberra is now truly global in perspective, ready to do business with the world.
The annual ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards acknowledge the enriching contribution Canberra Region businesses make to the local economy through job creation and increased prosperity in the community.
Canberra Business Chamber CEO, Robyn Hendry said the Awards recognise the innovation of businesses, large and small, in reaching new global markets.
“Each of the finalists in the Awards have achieved outstanding growth in international markets over the past year. They have opened doors across the globe, not only for their own goods and services, but for Canberra Region businesses as a whole,” Robyn said.
“Securing export sales helps local companies expand and employ. Our businesses trading overseas play a role in ensuring we have a diverse, strong economy here in the ACT region,” Robyn said.
