Locally crafted gifts to celebrate Christmas in July

Psssst. Don’t tell anyone, but we know the best-kept secret for stress-free Christmas in July shopping in Canberra.

Our friends at the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre have a shop stocked to the brim with local delights. Featuring a wide range of gifts sourced from the Canberra Region, there’s plenty to excite everyone, from foodies to culture junkies through to kids – even people who are dubbed ‘impossible to buy for’.

With easy parking right outside and delicious coffee next door at The Deck, the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre makes Christmas shopping, dare we say it, enjoyable. Plus we’ve done the heavy lifting and designed some Christmas wish lists for your friends and family (it’s a hard job, but someone has to do it).

Foodie fun wishlist

Take your taste buds on a culinary journey through the national capital as you pick out presents for your foodie friends. Delight their palates with a cool climate wine or a local tea leaf blend. If you’re after a savoury side, look no further than Pialligo Estate’s Bacon Jam. If you have a sweet tooth we recommend Fudgemental’s desserts. Famous for their unexpectedly delightful flavour combinations, a smorgasbord of delicious flavours awaits you.

Pair your local produce with a cooking accessory. Pop your food shopping in a tote bag that celebrates Ngunnawal culture or add a pop of colour to your kitchen with a Gang Gangs’ tea towel.  Lesser known fact, when you drink from Trevor Dickson’s mug, which playfully captures the essence of Canberra’s iconic bus shelters, your drink is immediately tastier.

Culture Junkies’ wishlist

Want to spend some quality time with your loved ones exploring Canberra? Why not gift them an experience to remember? Tickets to the National Gallery of Australia’s exhibition Monet: Impression Sunrise exhibition are available for purchase at the visitors’ centre.

Kids’ wish list

The Canberra and Region Visitors Centre has plenty of cool presents for kids and kids-at-heart alike. Locally created picture book, Phoebe Digs Politics, is a modern classic that works on multiple levels and LLL Design’s earrings are so funky that anyone of any age can rock them. Keep an eye out for the limited edition Australian coin sets created by the Royal Australian Mint. Featuring colourful designs commemorating Chinese New Year and Aussie classics like Possum Magic, these designs are sure to inspire the whole family.

Get hands-on and create your own kangaroo sculpture or challenge your family to a game of cards featuring locally inspired designs. Share the gift of gardening with your kids thanks to Seed Tiles – designed to make growing plants easy for those of us who lack a green thumb, this creator also partners with local organisations to advance social inclusion initiatives.

The wish list for the person who has everything

With something for even the pickiest gift recipient, come down and see the range of ready-made Christmas Hampers. Featuring everything from Jasper and Myrtle chocolate to Underground Gin through to Byanne’s handmade soaps, these hampers will excite and delight. Alternatively, create your own combination of local brews with a mix-and-match six-pack.

Gingerbread Houses (including a gluten-free variety) are also available for purchase. Be warned, these gingerbread creations are so adorable you won’t want to eat them.

The Canberra and Region Visitors Centre is located at Regatta Point. Open 9am-5pm weekdays and 9am-4pm on weekends, the centre is open 364 days of the year.
