The city’s skyline is changing

Story by In The City Canberra

It seems everywhere we look in the CBD there’s a new development underway or planned. It’s an exciting time for the City and Canberra as a whole as we watch the skyline of our City change.

Northbourne Avenue near the City and Braddon light rail stations will have “Civic Quarter” near Veterans Park and “Midnight” on the old NRMA site.

Civic Quarter

London Circuit will have “Constitution Place” next to the Legislative Assembly, the retrofit of “Eclipse House” opposite the Assembly and the “The Capitol Residences” near the Melbourne Building.

Cooyong Street facing Braddon gets the significant multi use extension of the Canberra Centre and the SHL (developers of the high-quality Campbell 5) are working on the old Currong Flats site.

Add the redevelopment of the Aquis’ Casino precinct to the mix with light rail and related improvements for pedestrians and cyclists and we are all in for a treat.

Within the CBD we have cranes starting to punch the skyline for the almost sold out “Highgate”, the recently complete “Manhattan”.

We count five Hotels – and there’s another one up the road at Mid-City opposite the ABC. Let’s hope they all win architectural, sustainable design, social inclusion and tourism awards.

All this within the next five or so years!
