The 12 days of Christmas with Canberra’s Etsy Makers

Story by CBR Canberra

There’s nothing quite like watching your family unwrap something they’re going to love, you loved choosing and the creator loved making.

Canberra’s creative community has been busy making presents galore in the lead up to Christmas. To take some of the pressure off your Christmas shopping we’ve created the ultimate wishlist for the twelve days of Christmas, stocked exclusively by local Etsy makers. Skip the crowds at the shopping centre this holidays and support a local artist instead.

Crocheted catcuses made by a local Canberra creative in pots

Day 1 – Crocheted magic

Not everyone is born with a green thumb and for those of us who kill a plant as soon as we look at it, greenery can be an anxiety-inducing present. The Granny Square Conspiracy have you covered with crocheted cactuses.

Day 2 – Canberra pride

Quintessentially Canberran, Oh Little Spark has created customised prints of Canberra icons. Who would have thought the Skywhale and our signature bus stops would work so well together?

Day 3 – Eco Jewellery

For those who live and breathe jewellery, now there is living and breathing jewellery. BotanicTwist are masters of creating mini terrariums that double as earrings and turning living succulents into stunning pendants.

Day 4 – Car-toons

Car lovers will soon become art lovers with these customised creations. Simply tell Draw My Ride what kind of car you can’t live without and a few details about the driver – the result is sure to blow your socks (or rather, your driving gloves) off.

Day 5 – A tea-riffic gift

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party is over-rated, it’s all about magical, fairyteale experiences now. Transform your teapot with this memorable tea cosy by alittlebirdmademe.

Day 6 – Boutique bags

No outfit is complete without a purse to match. Natalie Sews Boutique creates unique purses that are both casual and elegant.

Day 7 – Fun-sized

Kids are cute, but they’ll be even cuter in these handmade numbers. BeccaBooKids create fun-sized clothes for our youngest Canberrans.

Day 8 – Christmas gets lit

Fill the air with the smell of Christmas without slaving for hours over a hot stove – simply light a handmade candle by Lucian Candles. The hardest bit is choosing the right scent!

Day 9 – A twist on the traditional tree

With 94 forests sometimes it feels like the National Arboretum has everything but a traditional Christmas pine. Skip the Christmas tree and snap up a photograph of this national treasure from Little Red Birdy instead.

Day 10 – Down-under decorations

If you already have your Christmas tree, why not decorate it with something that is both beautiful and unique – we’re talking about our Aussie animals of course. BryneWoodware create oak ornaments that are eco-friendly.

Day 11 – Classy cyclists

Just because you ride to work doesn’t mean you can’t dress to impress. These bicycle inspired cufflinks by Dressed for Sunday add a quirky charm to any outfit.

Day 12 – Don’t forget a Christmas card

A Christmas card is the perfect finishing touch to any gift. Ink and Card have a range of unique designs for you to write you heartfelt messages in.

You can also find locally made products at Trove Canberra, at the Christmas Handmade Markets (7-9 December), Pop CBR (1-23 December) and the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre.
