She’s danced with drones, rolled around in the dirt and collaborated with scientists. Meet Alison Plevey, award-winning choreographer, dancer, teacher and Leader of the Australian Dance Party.
She’s continually looking for ways to push the boundaries of her art and for her, Canberra is the perfect place to express herself.
“This young and exciting city, allows me the opportunity to experiment, make connections and find who I am as an artist.
For me, the ability to communicate or incite change through my work is so much more important than being a beautiful dancer. For a long time, I struggled with how I could use my love of dance to connect to the bigger world and its issues. My inspiration came from being part of the Nation’s Capital—it’s given my art a deeper purpose, where I can create ideas based on the social, environmental and political challenges we’re all facing.
There’s so much untapped potential here, and I’m really excited that I get to help shape the city I live in.”Play Video
