Strap on your seatbelts, because another March packed full of activities is just around the corner.
As all locals know, March in Canberra has blockbuster events across all its 31 days, and features a vast array of events, exhibitions, shows, festivals and markets to keep everyone entertained.
We want that secret to get out, so that national and international visitors to our wonderful city can plan their calendar full of new things to see and do.
“There really is something new on offer every day of the month, so it’s the perfect time for locals and visitors alike to explore our city and region and soak up the festival atmosphere,” Brand Canberra Manager Debra Surman said.
Many of Canberra’s most popular events will return better than ever next month.
Over 10 nights enjoy the magnificent displays of Enlighten (March 3-12), where Canberra will be seen in a different light as six of its most iconic buildings are lit up and transformed into vibrant arts precincts after dark.
And while you are wandering along the shores of Lake Burley Griffin under the bright lights, don’t miss out on the vast array of food on offer at the Enlighten Night Noodle Markets.
You can sink your teeth into some delicious authentic Asian eats, from dumplings to dosa, Pad Thai to gyoza. There will also be bars and music to add to the festival atmosphere.
Set your alarm a bit earlier from 11-19 March and head to the Lawns of the Parliament House to enjoy the hot air balloons rising during Canberra’s beautiful sunrise at the world-renowned Balloon Spectacular.
What is a festival in Canberra without some exceptional exhibitions? ‘Versailles: Treasures from the Palace’ continues to run throughout March, exclusive to the National Gallery of Australia, while the popular ‘David Attenborough’s Virtual Reality Experiences’ at the National Museum of Australia is also one not to miss.
If you’re after a night of belly laughter, the Canberra Comedy Festival is back again from March 20-26, with a full program of shows and productions featuring several international guests and national stars at the Canberra Theatre Centre.
If craft is your thing, you will be able to find something quirky at the Handmade Markets and when it’s time for a cold one, go and have a drink or two to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Canberra Craft Beer and Cider Festival on 18 March.
There will be over 80 different beverages, plenty of local gourmet food and you can even try your hand at matching beer and food.
Art Not Apart will also return in the New Acton Precinct on 18 March with exhibitions, performance art, numerous music stages, installations, strange interventions, street food, cafes and a dance party.
