The Australian National University (ANU) will welcome a swathe of local and interstate shops, services and cafes to its new Kambri development in 2019.

The $263 million redevelopment will be home to a new bar, bookshop, several food and beverage outlets, pharmacy, supermarket, gym, health services and a pool.

ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt is looking forward to welcoming new and returning local businesses to support a vibrant community centre.

“Kambri means ‘meeting place’ and we have partnered with bars, cafes, shops and services that will bring many new people to ANU to participate in the community atmosphere and spirit of the precinct.

“The new bar, called Badger & Co, will continue the long-held ANU tradition of supporting live music acts.

“Former students often tell me the story of the time Nirvana played at ANU. With multiple event spaces in Kambri – including the Badger & Co, an outdoor amphitheatre, and purpose built 1000 person capacity events hall – all I can say is watch this space for live music announcements.”

Most food and beverage on offer will focus on providing affordable options for everyone, while China Plate will also join the precinct to offer a higher end option for special occasion dining.

“We have consulted closely with students, staff and our community to ensure the shops, food and beverage outlets, and services meet their needs and preferences,” Professor Schmidt said.

“Open on weekends, Kambri will also be a place for parents to take their children with family-friendly cafes and facilities throughout.

“We are pleased to announce that the following new shops will be opening in 2019.”

A new laneway within the precinct will have a lively atmosphere, complete with a variety of hawker style food outlets. A full list of retailers is available on the Kambri website.

Opening to the public in February 2019, Kambri at ANU also includes new teaching, student accommodation and parking facilities.
