Heading to Canberra for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (10-12 June)? Now’s the time to get out and explore all the Canberra region has to offer. Whether it’s staying close to the Canberra city centre, or exploring the region, there’s something for everyone to enjoy over the long weekend.

Whether it’s staying close to the Canberra city centre or exploring the region, there’s something for everyone to enjoy over the long weekend.

For the art appreciator

Porosity Kabari (9 June – 9 July) is the latest exhibition to be shown at the boutique Nishi Gallery in the NewActon precinct. It features the works of Australian object designer Trent Jansen, artist/architect Richard Goodwin and Indian design thinker Ishan Khosla. The exhibition challenged the trio to work over three weeks to produce furniture and object pieces made from materials and craftsmanship sourced solely from the ‘Kabari Bazaars’ (junk markets) in Mumbai, India.

Visitors can also participate in a workshop lead by Jansen (10 June), exploring the ad hoc making and repair process of ‘Jugaad’ – an Indian practice of  applying innovative solutions and simple work-arounds when making and repairing objects.

For the wine lover

Contentious Character’s ethos is all about putting the wine first – pairing local, seasonal food to the wine rather than the other way around, making it a must-visit for the true wine lover. Join them in celebrating the launch of their inaugural Contentious Character range of wines. Celebrate with a shared plate and a tasting of Pinot Noir and Riesling vintages ranging from 2003-2014 on 10-12 June.

For foodie fun

Truffles, truffles and more truffles! From hunts at Canberra’s only trufferie, The Truffle Farm, through to events held across the Canberra region with The Truffle Festival – Canberra Region, now’s the time get your truffle on.

For the snow kids

With plenty of snow cover anticipated, celebrate in style with skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, live music and more for opening weekend at Corin Forest (10-11 June).

It seems silly to need to say it but snow is weather dependent, so please bear that in mind and check the website for the latest snow conditions before you head out.

For the style mavens

After a unique accessory to add to your outfit, home or gift cupboard? Pick up hand crafted ceramics, lovingly made children’s toys, special one-of-a-kind jewellery and more to set you apart from the crowd at Handmade Market (10-11 June). Support Australian designers and markets while picking up fashionable goodies at the same time.
