Story by Visit Canberra
No matter your style of wine consumption, Canberra District Wine Week from 5-14 April has an event for you.
For the dabbler
If tasting without commitment is your thing, then join the weekly wine tastings in NewActon. Gather at the bottom of the grand stair in Ovolo Nishi and sample the wares of 5-6 wineries, giving you a taste of what’s on offer throughout the event. This is the perfect introduction to this year’s Festival theme Expect the Unexpected.
For the foodie
While wine might take the centre stage throughout Canberra District Wine Week, the food on offer lends strong support. A six-course degustation dinner (9 April) will be hosted at Canberra’s only two-hatted restaurant Aubergine, who will feature makers Four Winds Vineyard, Pankhurst Wines, Shaw Wines, Yarrh Wines, Lake George Winery and Clonakilla.
For the active
Not content with sipping idly? Pilates in the Vineyard (6 April) is for you. Let yourself feel virtuous as you join in a pilates class while enjoying the fantastic views of Entoria Wines vineyard, then take some time to sample the fruits of the vines.
For the frustrated
Stomp to your heart’s content at Murrumbateman Winery’s Grape Stomping (Saturday 6 April). Get down and dirty and lend a hand – sorry, foot – with getting the harvesting started, as well as alive music, wine tastings and nibbles.
For something completely different
Beyond wine consumption, there’s something for everyone, including art exhibitions, smoked ribs paired with cool climate wines, winery tours, watercolour lessons, cheesemaking, and live music in the vines. For the full program, head to canberrawines.com.au
