There are two prestigious industry awards that are highly coveted by every hairdresser in Australia. And a Canberran hairdresser has won the NSW/ACT category for one and is waiting to hear the results for his finalist entry in the other.
Adam Ciaccia of Axis Hair in Braddon is the Australian Hair Fashion Awards NSW/ACT Hairdresser of the Year for 2018 and is a creative finalist for Hair Expo Australia, which will announce the winners over the June long weekend.
It’s not the first time he has taken out the Australian Hair Fashion Awards, having won the same category in 2012. He says that the initial win went to his head, but since then he has matured.
“I definitely let my ego get in the way of my craft,” he says. “But now I have a lot more humility, and my work comes from a place of pure passion for creating, rather than trying to impress.”
Nevertheless, his work obviously impressed the international panel of judges who base their criteria on contribution to the industry and business performance as well as his photographic collection, which was entitled “Reborn”.
“The collection started with a conversation I had with my wife, about how so many women are succumbing to Botox and fillers in order to achieve this perceived idea of beauty,” he explains. “I wanted to really bring out the authentic beauty of women, drawing inspiration from the beach – the sand, the ocean and grasses.”
With the announcement of Hair Expo on the horizon, Adam is focusing solely on what he loves doing most.
“Creating beautiful hair for my clients. That’s what drives me more than awards. It’s seeing someone leave our salon feeling amazing.”
