5 things you can’t miss at this year’s Enlighten

Canberra’s famous Parliamentary Triangle will be brought to life after dark this March as Enlighten returns to our city as a remarkable part of CBR 31 days.

The iconic buildings will be transformed into vibrant arts precincts with loads of entertainment, food and fun – whilst ginormous moving projections are lighting up the city.

Many of the national institutions welcome visitors after hours to host several events and outstanding experiences.

One of our city’s flagship events, here are 5 things you can’t afford to miss at Enlighten 2017:

  1. Night Noodle Markets

The Enlighten Noodle Markets are bringing food, friends and light together from 3 – 12 March.

The lights will be spreading across the city lighting up the Parliamentary Triangle, whilst visitors bite into unique Asian foods and mouth-watering desserts.

The atmosphere will be pumping with live entertainment from DJ’s to illuminated Lion Dancers, and the outdoors bars will quench your thirst.

2016 crowd-favourite Bao Stop will be returning to serve up its mouth-watering Bao trifecta and Peking duck fries, alongside the likes of What the Pho, Gelato Messina and Let’s Do Yum Cha.

2. Lights! Canberra! Action!



Hollywood visits Canberra with the 14th year of Lights! Canberra! Action! short film festival.

Twelve emerging filmmakers battle it out on the screens at the Museum of Australian Democracy screening their unique films specifically designed for the night.

Each 7-minute flick has to be filmed within ten days, feature ten special items and must explore the theme of ‘right’.

You will be kept on the edge of your seats with the announcement of the winner immediately after the screening.

Don’t forget to bring your bean bags, blankets, and popcorn because you’re in for a big night of film!

3. Sunset at the National Arboretum

Experience the lights of the city with a scenic walk through the forests around Dairy Farmers Hill to the lookout, and watch the sunset over the Brindabella ranges.

You will return to the National Arboretum at dusk on a torch lit trail with views over Canberra’s lights.

Then be welcomed in the National Bonsai and Penjing Collecting under lights and enjoy some tasty nibbles and drinks.

Cost: $45 – non-member, $40 member

4. Enlighten Selfies


Join the National Portrait Gallery after dark and take the perfect Enlighten selfie at the digital photo booth.

But it doesn’t end there, you too can be a part of the show this year and display your selfie on the façade of the building amongst the myriad of other spectacular projections.

Broadbean catering will also be serving some delicious food and wine at the Portrait café so you can take a seat and enjoy a meal whilst viewing the enormous moving projections.

5. Dining at the House

Treat yourself to a night out at Parliament House and enjoy an exquisite menu based on the freshest local and regional produce.

Spend a night with your loved ones and relish in fine food and wine whilst listening to live music and taking in breathtaking views from the private Member’s Terrace.
